The Orlando Convention Center hosts a very wide spectrum of events and exhibits ranging from gaming communities, to business conferences, to even origami folding displays. The point is, everyone is there to show off. Everyone is there to impress and to be impressed. Your booth has to stand out. So when your booth is at a convention despite having nothing to do with the massage industry, why have massage chairs in your booth?
The mere-exposure effect is a psychological phenomenon by which people tend to develop a preference for things merely because they are familiar with them. In social psychology, this effect is sometimes called the familiarity principle. Holding an area where people can hang out and allow themselves to be exposed to your branding gives them time to become comfortable with your brand. Simply said, the longer people hang around your booth, the more at ease they are to your company and to your product.
Setting potential consumers and customers at ease is absolutely key to making more sales. People are naturally going to buy products and services they feel comfortable with. Its a psychological “gut feeling” they get. Offering massages to Convention-goers not only takes away stress and muscle tension, they’ll immediately feel better and it’ll even improve their mood and focus! A good salesperson knows that its most important to change their mood, not their mind. Its most typical for people to buy when they’re happy. Why not make them happy right there at your own booth?
When convention-goers see your booth with a massage chair, they will associate your company and your brand with the benefits of massage. Basic Psychology says that when someone sees your booth with a massage section (especially over time or repeated sightings), they will “learn through conditioning” that your booth stands for health and happiness. They will associate your brand with good vibes and will likely be more comfortable with your company the next time around.
When there is a massage booth, you can be sure that your costly spot in the convention will never be empty. Keep in mind that although you paid for a booth in a convention, there’s no real guarantee that your booth will be popular. A massage chair is no guarantee but it certainly helps. What it does guarantee is an unconventional convention — for both your sales team and potential customers and clients! Massage engages people on a different level and it is a surefire way to bring attention to your salespeople. They’ll walk away from your booth or your convention with something much more valuable than a branded pen—they’ll have an experience that they won’t forget for a while. Besides, it’s hard to say no to stress relief, relaxation, a physical and mental reset, and a good ole break from all the chaos!
